Clara Maass Medical Center Celebrates With Beam Signing Ceremony

A beam signing ceremony was held to commemorate another construction milestone of the new 87,000-square-foot expansion to Clara Maass Medical Center. Representatives from Barnabas Health, Rendina Healthcare Real Estate, and city officials gathered to celebrate this benchmark and sign a beam that was later integrated into the steel framework of the facility.

Once completed, the facility will become the new front entrance to the hospital, housing 43,000 square feet of Class-A physician office space and a state-of-the-art, 32-bed ICU, among other amenities.

Steve Barry, President of Rendina, is intimately familiar with the project and its future impact on the area’s residents.

The new ICU and medical office building are scheduled to open in early 2017.

Rendina and Carolina Orthopaedics celebrate Carolina Coast Surgery Center Grand Opening

Rendina Healthcare Real Estate and Carolina Orthopaedics celebrated the grand opening of the new 22,000 square foot Carolina Coast Surgery Center, located in Murrells Inlet, with a ribbon cutting and reception on Wednesday, June 24. Developed by Rendina, the new facility encompasses a surgery center on the ground floor and Carolina Orthopaedics on the second floor, alongside ATI Physical Therapy. The surgery center will be managed by Surgery & Recovery Partners of Greenville, S.C.

The development of this first-class facility – which includes comprehensive orthopaedic and pain management services, cost effective surgery, and physical therapy – will improve clinical outcomes, enhance convenience and patient satisfaction and effectively serve the population of both Horry and Georgetown county residents.

The state-of-the-art Carolina Orthopaedics (www.cosdocs.com) clinic has the most technologically advanced equipment in x-ray imaging and ultrasound, combined with effective alternatives to surgery through the comprehensive physical therapy services offered by Proaxis/ATI Therapy (www.proaxistherapy.com).

In addition, the physicians of Carolina Orthopaedics wanted to pursue a low-cost, high-quality alternative for outpatient surgery that will allow for better control over costs, staffing, scheduling and service offerings for patients. Outpatient surgery centers are designed to offer a significant cost savings to patients compared to hospital-based surgical procedures while creating the highest levels of patient experiences and clinical outcomes.

The Carolina Coast Surgery Center (CCSC – www.carolinacoastsc.com), an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) will be licensed by SCDHEC, accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), a nationally recognized accrediting body and also will be Medicare certified. Thus, this facility will be highly regulated and held to the highest standards for patient safety and satisfaction.

CCSC, through the leadership of Surgery & Recovery Partners (www.surgeryandrecovery.com), its medical director and the physician owners, aims to create the best patient experiences through its advanced preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative opiod-sparing and recovery-accelerating protocols. The center has recruited an anesthesiologist from a nationally recognized specialty hospital who will implement the highest standards of patient care, and brought in an administrator with more than 15 years of experience in ASCs. She is also the President Elect of the South Carolina ASC Association.

The roots of this project can be traced back to 2012 when the principals of Carolina Orthopaedics secured CON approval from the State of South Carolina to build an Ambulatory Surgery Center. The physicians were consulting with Dr. Jim Silliman, a former practicing orthopedic surgeon who had worked with Rendina Healthcare Real Estate on a past development project in Spartanburg, SC. In 2013, Dr. Silliman introduced the physicians to Rendina as an experienced development partner to help with construction, design, and funding of the project. Carolina Orthopaedics and Rendina collaborated on a shared vision for the final project and a formal agreement was signed in December 2013 for Rendina to partner with the physicians. Rendina immediately moved to purchase the 9-acre project site and secured all development approvals to expeditiously construct the project. Construction activity commenced in the spring of 2014, and construction was completed with receipt of a Certificate of Occupancy on May 29, 2015.

Rendina Opens Northeast Regional Office in New Jersey

Rendina Healthcare Real Estate, a leading real estate partner to health systems across the nation, announced today the opening of a new regional office in Livingston, N.J. The new office comes on the heels of significant growth for the company in the region over the past several years. Rendina now owns 135,000 square feet of medical office space in New Jersey, with another 130,000 square feet under construction and an additional 175,000 square feet in the planning stages.

This is the sixth office for the Florida-based developer. With more than 25 years of experience, including over 100 projects developed throughout 15 states, the move to establish a more permanent presence in the Northeast is a natural expansion step for Rendina.

While Rendina has had previous experience in the Northeast, its recent development and management activity stems from a partnership with New Jersey’s largest healthcare system, Barnabas Health. The relationship was formed several years ago, when Rendina first collaborated with system leaders and formulated a plan that entailed a dramatic campus redevelopment for one of its leading hospitals.

Bruce A. Rendina Recognized with Lifetime Achievement Award

Rendina Healthcare Real Estate is proud to announce that Bruce A. Rendina has been posthumously awarded the 2014 HREI Insights Award for Lifetime Achievement. The prestigious award was presented last December at the HREI Insights Awards, which were held at the RealShare Healthcare Real Estate Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The HREI Insights Awards are the first and only awards program dedicated to highlighting excellence and notable achievements in the healthcare real estate industry. Healthcare Real Estate Insights, the premier national healthcare real estate magazine, organized the event and presented various awards to many of the industry’s leaders. The Lifetime Achievement Award is the capstone of the HREI Insights Awards, and seeks to honor an individual who has provided superior leadership and has made extraordinary contributions to the healthcare real estate sector.

Bruce Rendina’s legacy in healthcare real estate began nearly 30 years ago with the founding of his first development company. In the decade he spent leading the company, he developed 25 medical office buildings in seven states. Bruce eventually moved on to form a new company that would bear his name: Rendina Healthcare Real Estate. The company has since developed more than 100 properties across 15 states and is currently thriving under the leadership of Bruce’s three sons, Richard, Michael and David.

During his tenure as the Chairman and CEO of Rendina, Bruce developed and negotiated more than 5 million square feet of real estate in 14 states, valued in excess of $4 billion. His success, and that of his company, was in large part attributable to his ability to devise creative solutions to challenging situations. Most notable was his use of a creative shared ownership program, dubbed by Bruce himself the “Equity Participation Program.” The program offered a way for physician-tenants to share in the ownership of healthcare real estate without having to offer up capital or take on the traditional risks of development. This popular concept helped to propel Rendina to the forefront of the healthcare real estate industry.

In addition to his focus on real estate development, Bruce also founded Paramount Real Estate Services, a property management company that was responsible for managing more than 5 million square feet of medical office space across the nation.

During his lifetime, Bruce received several distinguished awards, including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1997, a benchmark for peer recognition of his career achievements. Bruce also received Palm Beach County Medical Society’s Heroes in Medicine Award, and was posthumously recognized by the South Florida Real Estate Journal with their Ultimate CEO Award in 2007.

Through all of his endeavors in life, Bruce always considered his role as a husband and father to be the most important. Bruce is survived by his wife Marjorie and his three sons: Richard, Michael and David. Today, Bruce’s legacy carries on at Rendina Healthcare Real Estate. Those who knew him best share stories of his passion, hard work and keen ability to foster relationships. The Rendina Family Foundation, formed by Bruce and Marjorie in 1997, continues to help fund cancer research and improve the quality of life for families and individuals who have been affected by the disease. Since its inception, the foundation has donated more than $5 million to organizations nationwide.
